"In a matter of moments, everything changed."
Sabrina went to work that day like any other day. Her then-husband came to her workplace and assaulted her. The place she once called home was no longer somewhere she could safely return — so she left to protect her life, and found safety with her daughter.
(02) starting over
Two months in a hotel. Everything we owned was still inside.
Her clothes, her daughter's things, their furniture — their life was inside the home they left. Bills still had to be paid. School didn't stop. They needed food, a safe place to sleep, transportation and everyday necessities. And through it all, Sabrina was trying to process what had happened to her while figuring out how to rebuild their lives.
Starting over, one box at a time.
"Sometimes leaving means walking away from everything familiar — because staying could cost you your life."
(03) why she built this
The support she needed — now for the next woman.
"I know what it feels like to wonder: Where am I going to sleep? How am I going to pay for this hotel? How am I going to replace everything? That's why I created You Deserve to Be Safe — to provide the kind of support I needed when my daughter and I were starting over."
